About Erik Bernhoffer
Since 1995, Erik Bernhoffer, MD, has served as a family practitioner in private practice, clinic, and hospital settings, treating a range of patients of different socioeconomic backgrounds. He began his career as a primary care physician for the National Health Service Corps (NHSC), treating patients in areas underserved by health care providers. In this role, Erik Bernhoffer, MD, practiced in the Ozark Mountains region of Missouri, and in small towns in Michigan and Ohio. He founded Prospect Road Family Practice, LLC, in Hillsboro, Ohio, in 2002. The dedicated physician also serves on the medical staff of Mercy Hospital Clermont in Batavia, Ohio.
A high achiever, Erik Bernhoffer, MD, earned the Life Scout rank in the Boy Scouts of America and excelled academically throughout his education. As a high school student in Toledo, Ohio, he earned a research grant from The Ohio Academy of Science and was awarded academic excellence awards in the discipline of chemistry. An honors program student in the College of Arts and Sciences at The University of Toledo, he received multiple scholarships and earned induction into Phi Kappa Phi honor society and graduated magna cum laude along with College Honors. Dr. Bernhoffer completed his Doctor of Medicine while on a NHSC scholarship and participated in family medicine residencies at MidMichigan Medical Center and at The Toledo Hospital where he completed his training. He then went on to become Board Certified in Family Medicine.
The Ohio primary care physician holds memberships in several organizations, including both the Ohio and American Academies of Family Physicians and both the Ohio State and American Medical Associations, and Board Certification from The American Board of Family Medicine. As a student under the guidance of The University of Toledo’s College of Graduate Studies’ Vice President, Erik Bernhoffer, MD, created a proposal for transforming a rundown Toledo steam plant into a science and education center for children. He also devoted a number of years to scouting, both as a participant and as a volunteer. Today, Dr. Bernhoffer shares his compassion for neglected youths as a mentor for Big Brothers and Big Sisters of South Central Ohio. Currently a board member on the Highland County Health Department, Erik Bernhoffer, MD, served in the United States Navy as well.
