Hillsboro resident Erik Bernhoffer, MD, has been a board-certified general practitioner and obstetrician in southwestern Ohio since 1997 and has cared for communities at Prospect Road Family Practice and at Mercy Hospitals in Batavia and Cincinnati. Since 2003, Dr. Erik Bernhoffer has served on the board of the Highland County Health Department.

The Highland County Health Department (HCHD) is state-mandated health center based in Hillsboro, the county seat. As the county’s public health authority, HCHD offers a wide range of services, including environmental health inspections for schools, restaurants, and all other public places; in-house health care and mobile nursing clinics, offering shots, immunizations, and disease testing; emergency response services in times of disaster, natural or man-made; and county records, such as birth and death certificates. The Highland County Board of Health meets monthly to review, plan, and implement statutory health regulations; manage HCHD expenditures and activities; discuss and produce SOP (Standard Operating Procedures) for public health issues; and otherwise manage all activities specific to community public health in Highland County.
